| Ganga Tukaram has two sons. She sells papads for a living. She purchases 'dal' in bulk, gets it ground into flour. She uses this flour to make papads which she then sells to shops and individual customers. Ganga has been involved in this business for a year now. She started the business with the first loan that she received. Until then, Ganga was involved in work as a labourer. She now earns an assured income from the sale of papad. When we visited Ganga, there were no stocks of the papad left with her. She was however selling fried papad as a snack to the walk in customers. Ganga has been regular with repayments but was unable to articulate the interest rate. She seemed to be relying on her group leader for information about the interest rates. Feedback regarding this has already been shared with the field partner. |

| Papad - they can be made of rice, dal (lentils), small and round, or large sized ones. One can fry them or have them roasted - as accompaniments to your food, or just for their own flavor. The variety available dazzles the mind. Ganga is into this very business of papad making. Working 8 hours a day for the last 2 years, he has built up a nice business, selling her papads at retail prices to her customers. Ganga is a widow with two sons who earn their living as daily wage workers. |
