A month that was used to take stock of our activities and
formulate new plans - but that did not stop the field trips,
the events and the screening and uploading of our borrowers.
On the cards for the months that follow,
are evaluation trips to our field partners, some of them new
and some old. We will bring you stories from these trips to
Industree Craft in Bangalore, Hope foundation in Kerala and
Sambhav in Madhya Pradesh.
But for now we
feature a borrower profile that reminds us that just Rs.3000
can make a difference to this woman and help realise her
dream to educate her children:

Expanding her trade is the only way this 35-year old can
continue providing for her 3 school-going children. But
funds are in short supply and she has applied for a loan to
help her make an investment in new material for her
business. She needs a loan of Rs.3000.

Win-Win Situation Arvind the newest member of our
team won a ticket to go to Delhi and attend the TEDx and
proudly announced this at the office. Before he could really
fathom what had happened he was on a field trip too, to meet
prospective filed partners at Jharkand and Uttar Pradesh.
So, after having attended most of the Open House session on
at the office that day he left for his trip- a little
apprehensive but full of enthusiasm
His
first visit was to GRAVICO, an NGO in Dhanbad district,
Jharkand and after having met the CEO and some of the
borrowers, he was impressed with the work that they were
doing and felt truly inspired. He was particularly touched
by a man with malformed fingers who used to beg earlier, but
today with the help of the NGO and several loans has a small
business repairing flash lights and torches.
GRAVICO borrower who owns a lamp repair shop
His second visit was to Lakshya that works in Kaushambi
district in U.P. Although they have not given out any loans
as yet, due to a shortage of funds, their mission is very
similar to that of Rang De- to reach out to the poorest and
most backward of geographies. An area with few opportunities
to earn a living and almost no facilities for education, the
poverty levels are heartrending. Although a male dominated
society, many of the women are coming forward looking for
ways to earn a living.
Rang De is still
in discussions with both organisations to find a mutually
beneficial platform to work on. Arvind, for his part has
been thoroughly motivated and has got even more passionate
about his work. Close

Chapter Chatter
The
Bangalore chapter held its first Freedom Concert 2010 on
14th August titled Rang. Hard work, careful planning and
great marketing skills ensured a full house. The music by

The Mumbai chapter is getting
ready with its running gear to take part in the Mumbai
Marathon 2011. The chapter members had a meet on a wet
Sunday afternoon to complete registration formalities and
discuss future plans. Many of the members were new and
meeting each other for the first time. Tapping mass
communication media and corporate houses, and holding more
events to spread awareness are some of the plans.
Individuals to head each of these have been identified and
soon concrete results should be coming in. Watch this space
for more updates.
Rang De has always believed in the power
of the youth to make things happen and students have been
particularly insightful and fresh in their approach. Two
Student chapters, one at VIT - Vellore Institute of
Technology and the other at PSG, Coimbatore are all set to
take off. Want to set up a student chapter in your
institute? Write to us at info@rangde.org
and we will be happy to help.

Essence Of Independence Independence Day celebrations have undergone major changes in the last sixty odd years. The fervour of India's independence struggle and the role of our national heroes, get enacted in schools and a few other institutions while for the rest of us it brings out a plethora of emotions depending on the circumstances and situations we have faced in life. At Rang De it stands for Freedom-freedom from poverty and the ability to be self-reliant.
The uncanny likeness of Natha in the movie Peepli Live, to many of Rang De's borrowers - in spirit and background, led us to encourage people to watch the film. A combo pack that included the movie ticket and a Rang De gift voucher was available for the Independence Day show at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai. Check how it all started on
