PRAYAS is a voluntary development organization working to help vulnerable groups of society through capacity building activities, natural resource management projects, microfinance programs and livelihood activities. The primary strategy is to provide inputs for building up community-based local organizations to promote long-term sustainability. PRAYAS is getting technical and financial support through partnerships with different NGOs and the government. PRAYAS envisions a society where people have better social and economic opportunities with access to financial services and awareness of rights and duties.

Gujarat, also known as The Land of the Legends, stands bordered by Pakistan and Rajasthan in the north east, Madhya Pradesh in the east, and Maharashtra and the Union territories of Diu, Daman in the south. The district of Surendranagar boasts of 8 industrial estates but many communities are still untouched by development. PRAYAS is making an attempt to change this though its microcredit and development programmes.

Jhabua is a predominantly tribal district located in the western part of Madhya Pradesh. It is surrounded by Panchamahal and Baroda districts of Gujarat, Banswara district of Rajasthan and Alirajpur, Dhar and Ratlam districts of Madhya Pradesh – one of the biggest Indian state in size with an area of 308,000 sq. kms. It is in the backward region of Jhabua that PRAYAS began its operations and continues till date.
