Thongbam Thoi Devi, a 50-year-old, hails from Imphal East, Manipur. She, like any other women, wants her children to be successful. She has three daughters aged 12,17 and 21. Her youngest daughter, Princy Devi aspires to be a school teacher when she grows up so that she can improve the lives of other children.
Having Rs. 42,000 as their yearly income and Rs. 30,000 as their expenses, it is very difficult to achieve the dream they want. The family of five doesn't have health or life insurance cover and the nearest drinking water is beyond 5 km of radius. They don't even access to primary health care centre.
To make this dream a reality, Thongbam Thoi Devi wants to take a loan of Rs. 10,000 for 12 months so that she can provide her children with basic necessities required for schooling. She plans to use this loan in her children's school fee, tuition fee, books, stationary items, uniforms and transport.
If she takes this loan from local money lenders, she will forever be indebted to them due to high interest rates that they impose. Word always spreads whenever women benefit from Rang De loans and Thongbam Thoi Devi would like to avail one for herself. By providing her with the loan we will be helping her and her children to reach their goals. So, let's take a step forward towards brightening a child's future by helping her mother.
