The Desi Trust, based out of Bheemanakone in Shimoga district, has been promoting traditional handloom weaving across major cities in Karnataka for over a decade. ‘DESI’ is more than a brand name, it is a conscientious effort in “Developing Ecological Sustainable Industries”. Its wide range of garments and home linen are naturally dyed and woven by handloom workers from the region. As an organisation, the Desi Trust provides sustainable employment to more than 1000 rural artisans who at one time, were migrating to cities in search of better wages.
Under its brand, the Desi Trust showcases handicrafts and organic food from different regions in India. Although it competes with other handloom stores in the cities, it retains an old world charm that is entirely its own. Customers who shop for Desi products are assured of quality at an affordable price. The proof of its popularity lies in the impressive sales figures it has registered thus far. In 2016-2017, sales stood at Rs.698 lakhs while its production unit reported 30000 meters of naturally dyed fabric per month.
Presently, the trust requires a loan to strengthen its production process and improve marketing of its products. It plans to increase cloth production to 35000 meters and reach sales worth Rs.795 lakhs as a result of this infusion of working capital.
Be a part of Desi’s incredible journey as a social enterprise empowering rural artisans in Karnataka. Socially contribute to this loan and support a rich tradition of hand woven fabric that has been around for centuries.
