About Hope Foundation

Hope foundation is registered as a non-governmental organization under the Indian Trust Act, 1882 and is actively involved in the economic empowerment of rural and urban areas of India. The organization has assisted more than 1000 Self help groups and supported them with access to microfinance, micro savings and micro insurance.

Hope foundation works in Palakkad, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Calicut, Idukki and Thiruvanantpuram districts in Kerala. Their head office is based in Palakkad and Rang De loans are given to women entrepreneurs from Self help groups in the region. Even though Kerala boasts of a high literacy rate, access to finance is still dismal in the area.

Muthulakshmi Thankavelu rears goats in Eruthenpathi, Kerala. She buys the goats from local market, raises and sells them after they reach a certain age. In the last four months, with her Rang De loan, Muthulakshmi bought 2 new goats and sold 2 goats. A mother of two, she wants to buy more goats in the future so that she can have a continuous supply of goats. With the extra income she has been making, she plans on buying her son a two wheeler vehicle and would also like to start chilli powder business with a future loan or venture into selling clothes in the local market.

Jyothi Anthoniswamy makes brooms from the leaves of leaves trees and sells them in the local market and in nearby towns. She makes around 20 brooms a day and sells each of them for around Rs.30. She makes a profit of around Rs. 350 per month and uses that to purchase household items. A daily labourer earlier, Jyothi believes that with the help of the loan, she does not have to go out looking for a new job everyday and that she can work at more convenient hours. With a future loan, she would like to employ two more people to help her and thinks they can make around 60 brooms a day.
