About Orida

ORIDA was started in the year 1998. The organization works across the state of Orissa. Micro Credit and micro-entrepreneurship development are the focus areas of the organization. In addition to it, they also support entrepreneurs in marketing of handicraft products. They work with 200 Self help groups in the district of Nayagarh.

Nayagarh district is situated in the hilly ranges in the West and its North Eastern parts has formed a small well cultivated fertile valleys intersected by small streams. ORIDA focusses on tribal areas, local needs and issues, resource mobilization and employment generation and micro Credit. Emphasis is given on economic improvement of the community through the process of their socio-economic development.

Puspanjali has utilized her loan of Rs.5,000 in buying a cow. Although, the income has not increased as per the plan due to low milk production. The cow provides around 1.5 litres of milk daily which is sold at Rs.16 per litre. Puspanjali’s husband is a driver. She hopes that the milk production will increase in next few weeks providing her much needed additional income. Meanwhile, the she has planned to meet out any shortage in the loan installment from her driver husband’s income.

We met Jotsnarani at her home early in the morning. Jotsnarani has used the money to procure paddy for husk and making rice. She buys rice at Rs.1,000 per quintal which once processed is sold for Rs.1,200 per quintal. She bought 8 quintals   of rice using the loan amount and her savings. She told us that she buys paddy as soon as the rice is sold in local market to ensure continuity
