Rangsutra, a craft company of over a thousand artisans from remote regions of India - the deserts of Rajasthan and plains of Eastern U.P, was set up with the goal of ensuring sustainable livelihoods for artisans and farmers by creating top quality hand made products based on the principles of fair trade and a celebration of India's rich craft heritage. Profits earned from sales go back to ensure a better life for the communities, as producers are shareholders in Rangsutra.

Rangsutra's core value is respect for both the producer and customer. The company supports home based artisans by not only providing them equipment and training to improve skills, but also lending design and marketing expertise to ensure that the products are contemporary and attractive to the urban consumer. Seventy per cent of Rangsutra's workers are women. Working part time (three to five hours) from their homes, depending on their skills, they earn about Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 a month. The work and money have given women more say at home. Women now want to send their daughters to school; some have become group leaders and have a greater say in their villages.
