Every student who completes secondary education must have access to affordable higher education. This will ensure that they receive the right coaching to improve their skills, gain more knowledge in their course of choice and thus, become more employable. Many community colleges like Sant Singaji Institute of Science and Management in Madhya Pradesh have sprung up in rural areas to address this need.

Deepika Bushare is one of the many students who has benefitted from SSISM’s assistance. The 21-year-old lives with her mother, grandmother and two sisters in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. With no father to support the family, it has not been easy for Vimla, Deepika’s mother to manage her large household. Although it is quite a struggle to stay afloat on her salary as a primary school teacher, Vimla leaves no stone unturned to ensure that all three of her daughters are properly educated.

Deepika who was studying at SSISM found it hard to pay the tuition fees as her sister too joined a year later. With both girls in college, it fell hard upon their mother to raise the necessary funds.

Deepika could only pay Rs.7000 every year and needed financial assistance for the remaining fees. Fortunately, Rang De was able to raise enough money to cover her educational expenses with help from our social investors.

When our field team met her mother Vimla last week at the institute, she told us that Deepika had successfully completed her BBA course and secured an average of 65% in her exams. She is now in Indore attending coaching classes to qualify as a sub-inspector. She also mentioned that the family’s financial position has improved a little since September as she is earning a more stable income.

Thank you for investing in Deepika’s loan. If you would like to help other individuals in need of education loans, please click on the link.

The bearded young man in the red shirt sits completely at ease during our audit session with students from SSISM. “I’ve done so many interviews before and I’m comfortable with them now,” says 20 year old Praveen Bagore.

A third year BCA student, Praveen exudes confidence when he speaks. The son of a tailor from Nemawar, Madhya Pradesh, he has made the best of all the opportunities that have come his way.

From the very start, the future appeared to hold little prospect for Praveen as his father earned very little and could not support the family properly.

But as it turned out, Praveen was a bright student and scored 72% in his class 12 exams. He joined SSISM’s BCA programme and eventually began working as his father became ill and could not work.

With the help of an education loan and salary from his new job, he managed to pay the course tuition fees and continued studying to earn his degree.

During our conversation with him, we learnt that he is passionate about dancing and has won many dance competitions. He recently participated in a dance-off held in Nemawar and won Rs.11000 as prize money which he used to renovate his home. He now dances professionally and will be seen in a local reality show called Dance Indore Dance.
